Using FreeStyle Libre 2, Libre 3 or Dexcom G6? Abbott discontinued the original Libre 2 and Libre 3 sensors on September 30, 2025, and Dexcom stopped making the G6 after July 1, 2026. You need a new prescription to switch to Libre 2 Plus, Libre 3 Plus or Dexcom G7. Your existing Libre 2 or Libre 3 reader still works with the matching Plus sensor. Let us handle the switch and we’ll contact your doctor for you.

Medical benefit or pharmacy benefit?

Insurance plans cover CGMs in one of two ways, and it changes where you get your sensors:

Medical (DME) benefit

Your sensors come from a durable medical equipment supplier like EzDME. Medicare and many commercial and Medicaid plans cover CGMs this way. We handle the paperwork and billing.

Pharmacy benefit

Some plans only cover CGMs at a retail or mail-order pharmacy. If that’s your plan, we’ll tell you and point you in the right direction.

Who qualifies?

Medicare and most commercial plans cover a CGM for people with diabetes who take insulin or who have a history of problematic low blood sugar. You usually need a recent visit with the doctor who prescribes your CGM. Every plan’s rules are different, so let us check yours.

Common questions

Do I need a prescription for a CGM?

Yes. Prescription CGMs like Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre Plus need a prescription from your doctor. We request it for you.

How often will I get sensors?

Most plans cover a 30-day or 90-day supply at a time. We’ll let you know your schedule once coverage is confirmed.

My sensor stopped working early. What do I do?

Visit our sensor replacement page or call us. Manufacturers usually replace sensors that fail before the end of their wear time.

Can I switch from Libre to Dexcom, or the other way around?

Yes, with a new prescription. Your plan may cover one brand over the other, and we’ll check.
