Lymphedema pumps for daily care at home
Swelling from lymphedema or chronic venous insufficiency can make everyday things harder. An at-home pneumatic compression pump helps move fluid out of the arm, leg or trunk, on a schedule your doctor sets. We supply pumps from AIROS Medical and Bio Compression Systems, work with your doctor on the paperwork, bill your insurance and train you on setup.

Why doctors prescribe compression pumps
In a study of 1,065 privately insured patients with cancer-related lymphedema, researchers compared the 12 months before and the 12 months after patients received a pneumatic compression device.1
These results come from one insurance-claims study of compression pumps in general, not a specific brand. They show an association, not a guarantee. Individual results vary; talk with your doctor about whether a pump is right for you.

What a lymphedema pump does
A pneumatic compression pump connects by tubing to a garment (a sleeve, legging, vest or pants) that has several air chambers. The pump fills the chambers one after another, starting at the hand or foot and moving toward the body. This gentle squeezing helps move built-up fluid out of the limb. Most people use their pump at home once or twice a day, along with their daytime compression garments.
Who it helps
- Lymphedema of the arm, leg or trunk, including after cancer treatment
- Chronic venous insufficiency, including with venous leg ulcers
- Swelling that keeps coming back despite garments and therapy
E0651: standard pump
A pump with a preset pressure gradient, for example the AIROS 6P or Bio Compression SC-2004-DL / SC-2008-DL. Most Medicare patients start with this type.
E0652: advanced pump
A pump whose pressure can be adjusted chamber by chamber, for example the AIROS 8P or Bio Compression SC-4008-DL. Insurers require extra documentation showing why the advanced features are needed. We help your doctor put that together.
What a pump can help with
- Moves fluid out of a swollen arm, leg or trunk
- Supports skin health between visits
- Can be used at home on your own schedule

How getting a pump works
Common questions
Does Medicare cover lymphedema pumps?
Medicare can cover a pneumatic compression device for lymphedema or chronic venous insufficiency with venous ulcers when your medical records meet its requirements. That usually includes a trial of conservative treatment first. We review the requirements with your doctor before ordering.
How long do I use the pump each day?
Your doctor sets your schedule. Typical home use is about an hour, once or twice a day.
Do I still need compression garments?
Usually, yes. The pump moves fluid out and your garments keep it from coming back. See our lymphedema garments page.
Is a pump safe for everyone?
No. Some conditions, such as an active blood clot, certain heart conditions or an active infection in the limb, can make pump therapy unsafe. Your doctor decides whether a pump is right for you.
